Do yourself a favor and find sometime to watch this video from Gary Vaynerchuk: 20 minutes of advice that is applicable to everyone who has a slight doubt about their future careers.
Gary here is talking to a group of creative interns in New York City. They are no doubt there to hear talks about their upcoming careers and network with industry professionals. I would have certainly been at home in that crowd.
This is worth 20 minutes of your time.
In the middle of the video, he talks about how he enjoys talking with 80 year old couples. He loves talking about what matters to them, and notably what people don’t say is important: no 80 year old is going to say to him that they really wish they would have made more money. They are only focused on the things that they love.
We are in a great spot to live our lives doing the things that we love throughout our entire lives. Are you doing it?
I’ll be honest, I’m not all the way there. But I’m on my way.
Career and Self help people talk of passion constantly. Passion is a weird thing, though. Not everyone knows what they are passionate about. I have people ask me about my activities on the web: and talk about how they are jealous of how passionate I am.
My passion for building things on the web is still less than two years old. This means that this passion hasn’t been a lifetime thing. If you don’t know what you’re passionate about, don’t worry about it, just start being willing to do more things that you enjoy. Start trying to connect the dots between what you are capable of doing in your day-to-day life, and the things you want to do with your dream life. I think as you look to connect those dots, your passion will emerge.
Gary Vaynerchuk has written and spoken extensively on passion and interests and hustle. I highly encourage you to check out his book called Crush it. It’s a relatively short book about taking your interests and passion and working hard to make something happen. Check it out if you’re interested.
